Evidence-Based Psychological Support, Tailored to You
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or uncertain about what you need. Psychology therapy offers a supportive space to better understand what’s been challenging and to work towards meaningful, lasting change.
Practical Information
Length:
A standard appointment length is 60 minutes, which consists of a 50 minute therapy session and 10 minutes for completion of clinical documentation by your psychologist.
Fees:
$260 per session, payable at the time of your appointment.
Medicare Rebates:
If you have a current Mental Health Care Plan from your doctor, you are eligible for a rebate of $145.25 for up to 10 Medicare sessions per calendar year.
Getting a MHCP:
If you don’t have a referral and are interested in discussing eligibility, visit your GP for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). Please book a long consultation with your GP as completion of the initial plan can take 30-45 minutes.
Private Health:
Contact your private health fund to see if you are eligible for a rebate for Psychological Services. Psychology falls under ‘Extras’ and coverage will differ based on your individual private health.
Third Parties:
We support individuals under DVA, NDIS Self Managed and NDIS Plan Managed. We also work with individuals through sporting organisations. We do not currently accept Workcover referrals.

No. You do not require a referral to attend a psychology appointment.

You can discuss receiving a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan through your GP or psychiatrist.
During your appointment, your doctor will determine the right care options for you.
The Mental Health Care Plan allows you to subsidise the cost of some psychological therapy services (outlined above) for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

After your initial appointment has been scheduled you will receive an email with a link to online forms and a questionnaire. Please complete the paperwork prior to the first session.
During our first session, the focus will be on getting to know each other. We will go through an assessment of what brought you to therapy. You will have the opportunity to ask more about me too including my approach as a psychologist. From here, we will develop collaborative therapy goals and a tailored treatment plan.

The Australian Psychological Society recommended rate for seeing a psychologist is $300.
At Life Balance Clinical Psychology a standard appointment fee is $260.
Unfortunately, as a boutique psychology practice we are unable to bulk bill.

If you are attending under a mental health care plan, please ensure you provide your referral to the clinic via email prior to your appointment or ensure you bring the referral to the appointment. The full session fee of $260 is payable at the time of your appointment. Medicare rebates are processed online by 6pm on the day of appointments. Following Medicare processing times, Medicare will deposit the rebate amount to the account registered with Medicare.

Life Balance Clinical Psychology has a 24 hour cancellation policy. Cancellations within 24 hours of the session time, or non-attendance on the day, will incur the full session fee. Please note, Medicare rebates are not available on cancellation fees. If you are no longer able to attend your appointment in-person however, appointments can be changed to telehealth at any time with no additional fee.

If you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim back part of your session fee.
Contact your private health fund for information on eligibility and for specific rebate amounts.
You will receive an invoice by 6pm on the day of your appointment, which you can submit to your health fund.
Existing clients can also access their invoices online through the client portal.

Life Balance ClinIcal Psychology is not a NDIS registered provider. Therefore, we are only able to accept self-managed and plan managed NDIS clients.

Please note, Life Balance Clinical Psychology is not able to offer services to forensic/ legal cases, family/ parenting/ couples counselling, or individuals with NDIA managed funding. Life Balance Clinical Psychology is not able to offer services to new clients under 16 years of age.
